7 hours. That's how long the coach ride to New Quay was.
Over the weekend, the UAL surf club went to New Quay which is in Cornwall. Obviously, there are no beaches in London so there are monthly surf trips out of London. Fun :)
We have weekly yoga and fitness sessions to keep us fit and ready for surf, as well as club nights on wednesdays to get to know everyone better.
After the horrible coach ride, we reached around midnight on Saturday. It was incredibly windy. At one point we were battling the wind and walking against it, really slowly. Quite a funny sight, really.
9am was our surf lesson, it was SO COLD. I couldn't feel my hands at one point of time. Thank God the wetsuit and boots kept us warm. Putting on your wetsuit is already a good workout on its own. I was exhausted after I got dressed. After the surf instructors briefed us a bit, we hit the waves!! It's true what the instructor said: Your battle today is not surfing, your battle is the sea. He was right. The waves were so strong! Waves kept crashing into my face. God knows why I didn't turn away (stupid). But it was really!! I can't wait to do it again. A hot steam shower after the 2-hour lesson was my favourite part of the day :)
Time for pictures!! Some of them were grabbed from Ustina.
Ate at a cute little Cafe Irie (with really horrible service) after our shower.
This place is beautiful.
I have a classmate from another part of Cornwall and she said New Quay isn't as nice.
If I already find New Quay so damn gorgeous already, I can't wait to visit other parts of Cornwall!
We all had Mexican dinner that day! After that we bought booze, and headed back to our rooms to get ready for Halloween night.
Zorro in a flash.
Sailor and the (really small) sailors club signboard. This is Emily, the president of Surf btw!! :D
After partying, we got back after 2am. Thankfully, daylight savings started that night so the clock was changed to 1am! We could sleep another hour, how lucky. Woke up to an aching back, we were so late for surf lesson that morning. Doing everything seemed 10 times harder with all the muscle aches and lack of sleep. But the lesson was still fun. Even though it rained that morning, it wasn't as cold as the day before. Great weather actually, and the waves were stronger! Meaning I could paddle less, hahahaha not really..
Checking out..
Ate my first ever cornish pasty and then headed to the bus station to catch the coach back to London.
This was a really great getaway and everyone from surf were SO FRIENDLY. So easy to make friends around here. Can't wait for the next trip. I'll wait for winter to pass and when it's warmer, I'll see Cornwall again ;)
Definitely need to up my game on the fitness factor, cos I'm so weak and have zero arm power ugh. PUSH UPS EVERY NIGHT, WHO'S WITH ME!!! (Starting right after my body stops feeling sore)
Halloween party round 2 on wednesday night!! And a 9am lecture the following morning..
Oh, London.
