Hurricane Sandy

Last year at the end of August, about 2 days after I reached NYC, Hurrican Irene was all over the news. It hit North Carolina and New Jersey badly and the mayor of Manhattan was taking precaution. Everyone were rushing into supermarkets and grabbing those non-perishable food for the hurricane. Batteries and flashlights were sold out everywhere. During that weekend when the hurricane was anticipated to happen, the Manhattan was a ghost town. Subways didn't work, nobody was walking along the streets and me and my cousin moved uptown to a safer zone. During the day of the "hurricane", it became a tropical storm by the time it reached Manhattan. THANK GOD. Soho and Fifth Avenue was saved, I could finally shop. I was lucky. (blogged about Irene here)

BUT THIS YEAR, Manhattan wasn't so lucky. Photos of pre/post-Hurricane Sandy were all over instagram and my classmates and I were talking about it. I felt so scared for the New Yorkers as well as Georgina who had an apartment in Wall Street (low-lying area). I can't believe I was in London when all this happened. The reason I came to London is because FIT in NYC didn't accept me. If I did get my first choice, I would be studying in the heart of New York. Hurricane Sandy would've killed me.

Dad emailed me an article about how Sandy affected NYC (power shortages, destruction etc) and at the end of the email he said, "Thank God you're not there". THANK GOD I'M SAFE AND SOUND. Phew. My life.. Love it.

But yeah, my heart goes out to all who got affected and I hope life in the city goes back to normal soon. New York is amazing and I don't want anything bad to happen to it.

Man, the world is going to end with all these natural disasters...... and I just started enjoying school.
